Day 15 – Favourite animal sidekick, pet or summoning from any anime

Much as I love cats, when it comes to companions from an anime I’ll have to go for Yakkuru from (you guessed it!) Mononoke Hime.

Yakkuru is Ashitaka’s red elk friend. I hesitate to call him anything else because to my mind that’s always what he’s been. He’s loyal and always looks out for Ashitaka, even to the point of putting his own safety at risk.

Day 14 – Anime that never gets old no matter how many times you watch it

Well (shockingly xD), Mononoke Hime’s going to be mentioned here no matter how I look at it. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen that movie about 10+ times by now and I still love it to bits ^^.

However, I don’t wanna end up talking about the same title over and over again, so I’ll add Fate/Zero :D.

This series has so many layers of awesome story lines that I just can’t get enough of it no matter how many times I watch it. It has pretty much everything, from moments of sheer joy, humour, amazingly animated action, not to mention the darker and inspiring sequences. So there you go, Fate/Zero is another one of those stories that has pretty much just enough of everything, making it a series I’d be ready to re-watch at virtually any time ^^.

As always, thanks for stopping by and reading! 🙂

Day 3 – Favourite male anime character ever

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerm… So yeah, here comes another list :D. Fyi, they’re in no particular order.

Nagisa Kaworu (from Neon Genesis Evangelion)

eva3-2

Now for the life of me I can’t say what made me like Kaworu in the first place, but I do know that ever since I saw the Evangelion series (and the rebuild) he’s stuck with me and I’ve loved him ever since. For some reason, Kaworu’s a joy to watch whenever he’s on screen. Enough said :D:D.

Yuuki Natsuno (from Shiki)

Natsuno

Again, he’s one of those characters I liked from the start, no questions asked. Although if I had to mention a few reasons which make me love him more, here goes – he’s smart, able to keep his calm in one hell of a fudged up situation, he’s a great friend to have and he’s capable of sacrificing even himself if the situation demands it.

Ashitaka (from Mononoke Hime)

He’s bound to be among my favourites what with my love for the movie :D. But besides that, what I really admire about him is his calm nature – (spoiler alert!!) when he finds out that he’s cursed, he’ll most likely die as a result of it and he has to leave his village forever, Ashitaka merely accepts these facts and does what he needs to do (end of spoiler alert ^^”). He’s also strong, determined and a very kind person. The more I try to write about him the worse I manage to express myself so I’ll just leave it at that. I guess part of what I’m trying to say is that, imho, Ashitaka’s one of the most noble characters out there.

Clear (from DRAMAtical Murder)

True, I’m thinking more about the way the character’s presented in the VN, mostly because I haven’t seen the anime yet, but Clear’s a character, now he’s also in an anime and he’s beyond lovely :D:D.

Besides the fact that he’s adorably goofy and very kind and friendly, there’s just something about Clear that makes me like him even when taking into consideration his bad endings. Either that, or I’m into messed up stuff. But hey, aren’t we all? ^^

Lelouch Lamperouge (from Code Geass)

Lelouch-Lamperouge-Zero-lelouch-lamperouge-zero-15571960-600-450

Ok, Lelouch is smart, organised a great strategist and as much of a twisted bastard as he can be sometimes (and despite some of the flaws of Code Geass as a series), the selflessness that he was capable by the end of it all kinda make me place him on my awesome-heroes-of-all-time list :D:D.

Characters I’d still like to mention are: Gilgamesh (from Fate/Zero) – because as much of an a-hole as he’s capable of being he’s also kinda noble in his own way and charismatic as fudge; Shion and Nezumi (from No. 6) – because I always end up with too many butterflies in my stomach when I see those two interacting :D; Matsuoka Rin (from Free!) – another tourmented soul that just so happens to look amazing as well ^^”; Edward and Alphonse Elric (from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) – they’re just too awesome; and Kokutou Mikiya (from Kara no Kyoukai) – similar to Kaworu, Mikiya’s like a ray of sunshine in an otherwise pretty dark world.

Ok, that’s it for now ^^.

Day 2 – Favourite anime you’ve watched so far

As with quite a few of the ‘days’ to come, this one’s gonna be a list rather than one particular title. Basically, I can’t choose just one series/movie because I really like several, each for different (or sometimes similar) reasons, etc., etc. For the sake of the posts though, I’ll limit the list to 5 titles. So yeah… on with the list :D.

Mononoke Hime (もののけ姫)

mononoke 2

Ever since I first saw this movie I’ve been astonished at how amazing and well rounded it is. It’s got a beautiful story, characters are great, art is amazing and the OST is just superb. This is definitely one of the animes that I could just re-watch a billion times and still not be sick of it.

Kara no Kyoukai (空の境界)

366302

“Mesmerised” is the only word that comes to mind just now while thinking how this series left me. True, I only saw the first seven movies and the epilogue when I initially watched it, but I was astonished at the amazing execution of this series. As confusing as it was because of the films’ order, it only made me want to re-watch it again, and again, and again. You get the gist :D.

Fate/Zero (フェイト/ゼロ)

509126

For me, this series has some of the most amazing characters out there. Everybody’s so well written and well thought out that even the bad guys fascinated me to no end and made me want to know more about them. Couple that with a brilliant story, superb animation and OST and you’ve got a masterpiece. Once again, this is a series that I could re-watch any number of times and still want more of it :D.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica (魔法少女まどか☆マギカ)

Mahou-Shoujo-Madoka-Magica-mahou-shoujo-madoka-magica-37533192-1500-1060

Ah, the Madoka series… I have to admit, I could have done without the final movie (I don’t think it’s bad or anything, but for me the story seemed to have a good initial ending), still, this series is very close to my heart. Aside from the whole ‘deconstruction of the magical girl genre’ aspect, the series does a great job of portraying a group of believable characters and their struggles following the decision to take on a huge responsibility, not to mention the way this affects their relationships with each other and other ‘non-magical’ people.

Shiki (屍鬼)

shiki

I guess some would say this show isn’t really horror and whatnot, but I think that this is the best horror anime I’ve seen so far. One thing that I love about it is that it portrays what would happen if a family of vampires would decide to take over a small village in a very realistic way. And we’re talking real, can’t-come-into-the-house-unless-invited vampires.

Another thing that I love about this anime is that by the end of it you end up questioning whether or not vampires really are all that evil and who the actual ‘monsters’ are. All in all, it’s a great and very real story, with well drawn out characters and an OST that can enchant and creep you out at the same time ^^.

So that would be my ‘top 5’, if I’d have to name it in any way. Titles I’d still like to mention are: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (鋼の錬金術師 FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST), Kokoro Connect (ココロコネクト), Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (コードギアス 反逆のルルーシュ), Baccano!, Monster (モンスター), Haibane Renmei (灰羽連盟), Spirited Away (千と千尋の神隠し) and I’ll shush now or this list won’t end any time soon :D:D.

Day 1 – Very first anime you’ve watched

So at the request of my friend, ニッキーのオタク, here I am doing the fabulous 30 day anime challenge ^^.

269064

Ok, Mononoke Hime‘s (もののけ姫) not actually the first anime I’ve ever watched (among the first animes I’ve watched are Sailor Moon and another series about volleyball that I’m too lazy to look up just now), but it’s the first anime that’s really stuck with me. This is mostly because when I watched the other series I was quite young and I honestly don’t remember much about them (except for the fact that I really wanted to be Sailor Moon :D).

Point is, Mononoke Hime really left an impression on me from the very first time I’ve seen it and even though I didn’t actually ‘get into anime’ until a few years ago, this movie’s always stuck with me and I re-watched it a bunch of times ever since. Heck, I even copied it to my iPod just so I would have it with me all the time ^^”.

So yeah, Mononoke Hime is technically not the first anime I’ve ever seen, but it’s the first one that I’ve ever watched in the sense that I knew what I was watching and I remembered it, etc., etc., etc.
